Description
Superheater
Fossil fuel power plants often have a superheater section in the steam generating furnace. The steam passes through drying equipment inside the steam drum on to the superheater, a set of tubes in the furnace. Here the steam picks up more energy from hot flue gases outside the tubing, and its temperature is now superheated above the saturation temperature.
The Steam Superheater is a coil type heat exchanger which is used to produce superheated steam or to convert the wet steam to dry steam, generated by a boiler.
Function
Superheater is to increase the temperature of the steam above its saturation point.
Reheater is basically a superheater that superheats steam exiting the high-pressure stage of a turbine. The reheated steam is then sent to the low-pressure stage of the turbine. By reheating steam between high-pressure and low-pressure turbine it is possible to increase the electrical efficiency of the power plant cycle beyond 40%.The reheat cycle is used in large power boilers since it is feasible economically only in larger power plants.

Application
Related Industry: Power Generation
The steam superheater aids in the drying of process steam. To maintain optimal performance of the system water vapor must be removed from the steam turbine system.
